Ramazan Rush in Peshawar Markets Amid Soaring Inflation

As Ramazan approaches, Peshawar’s markets are witnessing a significant surge in buyers, with locals rushing to purchase essential groceries like pulses, rice, ghee, and sugar. However, the sharp rise in inflation has left many consumers worried, limiting their buying power and forcing them to purchase only small quantities of goods.

The influx of shoppers has also created traffic congestion in the old walled city, with markets like Ashraf Road facing severe traffic problems. Long lines of vehicles are seen in various areas, making it difficult for shoppers to find parking. The traffic chaos has spilled over onto GT Road, further affecting the city’s transportation system.

Despite the increased demand, many consumers are cutting back on their purchases due to the skyrocketing prices of everyday goods. Inflation has led to concerns that there may be a record drop in Ramazan shopping this year, as purchasing power continues to dwindle.

Adding to the public’s frustration, prices of chicken, vegetables, and other items are rising as per the yearly trend, while authorities have shown little response to regulate the markets. Hoarders have reportedly become active, creating artificial shortages, and there are fears of a meat crisis during Ramazan, as beef prices continue to climb.
