In a groundbreaking move, the Sindh government has announced scholarships for six deserving students to pursue higher education at Oxford University. This initiative, part of the Benazir Bhutto Graduate Scholarship program, was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in London.
The announcement was made in the presence of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who highlighted the transformative power of education during the signing ceremony. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah shared that three male and three female students from Sindh will be selected annually to receive these prestigious scholarships, in collaboration with Oxford Pakistan.

“These scholarships have been designed to promote academic excellence, particularly in the fields of science, technology, and engineering,” said Chief Minister Shah. He further emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Sindh government’s long-standing commitment to supporting students in their pursuit of higher education abroad.
Reflecting on the legacy of his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari reiterated the importance of education for the progress of Pakistan. He noted that his mother had shattered societal barriers by becoming the country’s first female Prime Minister, stressing that the future of Pakistan lies in upholding democratic values, maintaining an independent judiciary, and ensuring free journalism.
In addition to the Oxford scholarships, the Sindh government has approved 3,157 new scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year under the Sindh Education Endowment Fund. These scholarships aim to provide opportunities to talented students across the province, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of academic achievement.
Chief Minister Shah also addressed ongoing efforts to improve safety in Karachi, citing the implementation of the Safe City Program, which aims to enhance security in the metropolis of over 20 million residents. He assured that despite the challenges, the provincial government remains committed to fostering a safer environment for its citizens.
