Tragedy struck near Raiwind as a van carrying 10 people returning from a wedding plunged into a drain, killing eight and injuring two. The accident occurred on Friday, local media reported. The van, a carry-box type, reportedly lost control and veered off into the drain.
Rescue teams, including Rescue 1122 personnel, arrived promptly, transporting the injured to Baba Bulleh Shah Hospital in Kasur, where they remain in stable condition. All victims were part of the same wedding group. Police have indicated that overspeeding likely caused the crash, and the driver, who was arrested, was reportedly drowsy at the time of the incident.

This is the second devastating road accident within a week. Last Saturday, two separate incidents involving public transport carrying pilgrims claimed at least 16 lives. In Khairpur, a bus overturned while avoiding a rickshaw, resulting in 10 deaths, while another van collided with a truck in Shaheed Benazirabad, killing six.
Both accidents highlight the ongoing issue of road safety, as overspeeding and driver fatigue remain significant factors in these tragic events.
