Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to finalize the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by June 2025, four months ahead of the originally planned October deadline, in order to meet conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to sources from the Privatization Commission.
The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Privatization, and PIA officials have been directed to accelerate the process. Sources indicated that a security audit will be conducted to support the reopening of US flight routes, a move aimed at enhancing PIA’s financial stability.
