Bangladesh Grants Approval for Direct Flights Between Karachi and Dhaka

Following a recent agreement between Pakistan and Bangladesh to resume direct flights, Bangladesh has granted approval for Fly Jinnah, a private airline, to commence operations. This marks the return of direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka after nearly a decade.

Fly Jinnah’s application was approved by Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB), with CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan confirming the approval and stating, “They applied, and we granted it.”

To move forward, Fly Jinnah is required to appoint a local General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh. Once this step is completed, the airline will be allocated slots and frequencies for the route.

Previously, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated direct flights on this route until February 2015. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain, confirmed that operations will begin soon following Fly Jinnah’s agreement on January 30.

The bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh has strengthened in recent months, particularly after the ousting of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. In December 2024, Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, further consolidating the ties between the two nations.
