Meta has unveiled major updates to Meta AI, making it smarter and more personalized than ever before. One of the standout features is the new memory function, allowing the chatbot to remember details from individual conversations on platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram. While this may sound appealing, it also means Meta will be monitoring and storing your conversations for future reference.

Smarter Memory, Better Responses
With the memory upgrade, the chatbot can remember specific preferences or details shared in past conversations. For instance, if you mention you’re vegan after it suggests a meat-based meal, Meta AI will recall that and ensure future recommendations are vegan-friendly. It will also use data from previous chats across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for its suggestions—without offering an opt-out for data collection, according to a Meta representative.
Personalized Suggestions Based on Context
Meta AI’s new abilities go beyond basic memory, offering personalized suggestions. If you ask for family-friendly weekend activities, it might recommend tickets to a country music concert, based on your location, interest in live music content, and the memory that you have a partner and two children.
Currently, the memory feature is available only to users in the US and Canada. Meta claims the feature is designed to continuously adapt and improve, enhancing user interactions with more context-aware and seamless responses. However, this level of personalization raises significant privacy concerns.
