The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2024, spotlighting some of the most outstanding performers in the game. The team features a blend of established stars and emerging talents from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and the West Indies. These players have been recognized for their remarkable contributions to the sport throughout the year.
In the top order, Saim Ayub of Pakistan made a major impact, scoring 515 runs at a strike rate of 105.53, including back-to-back centuries in South Africa. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz also shone with 531 runs and three centuries, while Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka excelled with 694 runs, including a record-breaking 210* against Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis led the run-scoring charts with 742 runs, and Charith Asalanka’s all-round performances, with 605 runs and key wickets, earned him a place in the team. West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford impressed with a strike rate of 120.1, contributing 425 runs in just nine matches. Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai also made a mark as an all-rounder, amassing 417 runs and 17 wickets, including a match-winning knock and key bowling figures against Bangladesh.
The bowling attack was led by Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who claimed 26 wickets, including a stunning 7/19. Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf also featured prominently, with Afridi taking 15 wickets in just six matches, while Rauf claimed 13 wickets, including a decisive five-for against Australia. Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar, the youngest member of the squad, took 21 wickets and was highlighted by his exceptional 6/26 against Bangladesh.
