A shallow westerly wave is set to affect the eastern and upper parts of Pakistan, bringing cold weather, rain, and fog over the weekend, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. On Saturday, the majority of the country will experience cold and partly cloudy conditions, with very cold temperatures in hilly areas.
Rain and thunderstorms, along with light snowfall in the higher altitudes, are forecast for eastern Punjab, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and nearby regions. Dense fog is also expected to form in patches across the plains of Punjab, particularly at night. These conditions are expected to continue into Sunday, with similar weather patterns and the likelihood of rain, thunderstorms, and snow in the aforementioned areas.

Temperatures have already been plummeting, with the coldest recorded temperatures on Saturday morning at Leh (-13°C), Parachinar (-12°C), and Astore (-11°C). Meanwhile, Karachi will experience a drop in temperatures over the weekend, with minimum temperatures expected to range between 10°C and 12°C, potentially falling further by Monday. The city’s chill is intensified by winds blowing at speeds of 5 to 20 km/h from the north and northeast.
In the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed nationwide, though isolated rainfall of 1mm was recorded in Mirpurkhas, and moderate to dense fog was observed in parts of Punjab.
