Speculation about Saim Ayub’s spot in Pakistan’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad will soon be resolved, with reports indicating that selectors plan to include the opening batter in the preliminary squad despite his injury concerns.

The deadline for submitting preliminary squads for the ICC Champions Trophy is January 11, 2025, with all participating teams required to comply with ICC regulations. Pakistan’s selectors are reportedly considering Ayub’s inclusion despite his ongoing recovery from a fractured ankle sustained against South Africa in the second test.

Ayub is receiving specialized treatment in England, with the PCB expecting him to be sidelined for up to six weeks. If he doesn’t recover in time, the Pakistan Cricket Board can seek approval from the tournament’s technical committee for a replacement.

Teams can make changes to their squads until February 11 without ICC approval, but any adjustments after that date will require approval. Given Ayub’s injury, the PCB may replace him without issues.

Ayub’s injury poses a challenge for Pakistan, as he was a key figure in the team’s top order. The selectors will closely monitor his recovery and have contingency plans to ensure a strong and fit squad for the Champions Trophy.
