PIDE Vice Chancellor Fined Rs 500,000 for Harassment and Gender Discriminatory Behavior
ISLAMABAD – The Federal Ombudsperson for the Prevention of Harassment has imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 on Nadeemul Haq, Vice Chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), following allegations of harassment and gender-discriminatory behavior towards a female staff member.
Fouzia Waqar, the federal ombudsperson, issued the ruling after investigating the complaints filed by staff economist Ambreen Qayyum. Qayyum accused Dr. Haq of abusing his authority and making defamatory remarks about women on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The investigation, conducted by the ombudsperson’s office, concluded that Dr. Haq’s actions violated Pakistan’s workplace harassment laws. As a result, a fine was imposed on him as part of the ruling. This case highlights the commitment to addressing workplace harassment and promoting accountability for individuals in positions of authority.
