Pakistani Victims of Greek Boat Tragedy Identified

Authorities have identified the five Pakistani victims of the recent boat accident off the Greek coast, which was part of an illegal migration attempt facilitated by human traffickers.

The victims identified include:

  1. Sufyan, 22, son of Irfan Arshad, from Pasrur.
  2. Owais, 17, son of Nematullah, from Pasrur.
  3. Abid, 12, son of Javed, from Pasrur.
  4. Zain Ali, 14, a 7th-grade student and the eldest of four siblings, from Narowal.
  5. Ehtesham, from Mandi Bahauddin.

The families of the victims revealed that substantial amounts of money were paid to human traffickers for the dangerous journey. For example, Zain Ali’s family disclosed they had paid Rs400,000 out of a total agreed amount of Rs2 million to the trafficker.

The tragedy also affected Kamoke tehsil, where seven individuals from the area were reportedly on the boat. Among the missing are Ali Haider and Muhammad Zahid. Fortunately, some youths from Kamoke, including Umair, Bilal, Qasim, Abdullah, and Osama, survived the accident.

The families of the deceased and missing have called on the government to take strict action against human traffickers who exploit vulnerable individuals. They also urge for swift repatriation of the bodies and support for the survivors.
