Her story gained widespread attention in 2022 when a local YouTuber featured her in a viral video, where she recounted how she had been deceived by the agent and found herself in Pakistan. The video sparked a social media outpouring and led to the discovery of her daughter living in Mumbai.
Following this, the government took notice of her plight and reached out to Indian authorities to confirm her citizenship. Once her Indian nationality was verified, steps were taken for her repatriation. On Monday, Bano crossed back into India via the Wagah border.
While bidding farewell to Pakistan, Bano shared her mixed emotions. She expressed initial sadness at leaving but also conveyed her joy at being reunited with her family after two decades.
