Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a reduction in international ticket prices following a waiver of the Federal Excise Duty (FED), which was approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the request of the Pakistani government. This waiver applies only to international flights and is expected to lead to significant savings for travelers. Passengers flying to the USA could save up to Rs350,000, while those traveling to Africa and the Middle East might see reductions of up to Rs105,000. For destinations like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East, savings could reach Rs210,000.

However, the waiver does not extend to domestic flights, which will still be subject to the FED. This development follows the imposition of an additional Rs56 billion in FED on air travel in the 2024 federal budget, partially easing the burden on international travelers.
Separately, PIA has finalized plans to resume its Paris flights starting January 10, 2025. The airline will offer twice-weekly flights from Islamabad to Paris, on Fridays and Sundays. The departure from Islamabad will be at 11:30 AM, arriving in Paris by 4:00 PM, with return flights departing Paris at 6:00 PM and arriving in Islamabad by 5:00 AM. The schedule is designed for passenger convenience.
