Saba Qamar Holds Meeting with German Consul General to Address Children's Rights

UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for children’s rights, Saba Qamar, recently met with German Consul General Dr. Rudiger Lotz to discuss key issues related to children’s rights and the environment in Pakistan. The discussion highlighted the importance of involving the youth in tackling these challenges.

Qamar stressed the need for youth engagement, saying, “Children’s rights and environmental issues can be resolved by engaging the youth of this country.” Dr. Lotz echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Germany’s strong support for children’s rights and praising Pakistan’s progress while underscoring the global importance of addressing environmental issues like global warming. He added, “Everyone has to play a role in preventing it.”

A significant focus of the meeting was the “Make Karachi Green” campaign, an initiative led by the German Consulate General in Karachi. This campaign aims to promote tree planting and raise environmental awareness. Ms. Anja Klos, Consul at the German Consulate General, briefed Qamar on the initiative, which seeks to educate schoolchildren about the importance of trees and the effects of climate change.

To support the campaign, Dr. Lotz presented tree seeds to Qamar and invited Karachi’s citizens to actively participate. Germany has long supported UNICEF’s efforts in Pakistan, contributing to both children’s rights and environmental sustainability.
