During his address, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhary emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and local elders in formulating a sustainable peace strategy. He strongly condemned the violence that has marred the district, describing the recent events as unacceptable and contrary to the values of a civilized society. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the rule of law and bringing those responsible for the unrest to justice.

Recent violence in Kurram district has left 88 people dead, including a massacre of 50 individuals whose convoy was ambushed and sprayed with bullets. Despite efforts to broker a ceasefire, fighting continued in regions like Bagan and Alizai, with more casualties reported. In addition to the killings, 111 people were wounded, and further violence resulted in two additional deaths and 19 injuries.

The situation in Kurram remains dire, with the main Peshawar Highway closed, and both internet and mobile services suspended. Fuel shortages have exacerbated the crisis, leading to the closure of educational institutions. The Kohat Educational Board has postponed exams for FA and FSc students in the area due to the ongoing instability.

Kohat Division Commissioner Syed Motasim Billah Shah announced that future peace jirga meetings would continue in Kohat, ensuring ongoing dialogue to address the district’s issues and promote peace. The jirga’s outcome will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of these efforts in restoring calm to the troubled region.
