DHL Plane Crash Near Lithuanian Capital Leaves One Dead

DHL Cargo Plane Crash Near Vilnius Airport Kills Crew Member

A DHL cargo plane crashed near Vilnius Airport on Monday, killing one crew member. The plane, which had arrived from Leipzig, Germany, crashed approximately one kilometer from the airport after hitting several buildings and skidding for hundreds of meters, according to Lithuanian police and DHL officials.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where debris from the plane and burning packages were scattered across a residential area. The area was cordoned off while investigations were launched.

Despite a series of recent investigations into possible incendiary devices being planted on cargo planes, Lithuanian authorities have not linked this crash to those incidents. Lithuanian Defence Minister Laurynas Kasciunas stated, “So far, there are no signs or evidence suggesting this was sabotage or a terrorist act.” However, the investigation could take up to a week to determine the cause.

State Security Department chief Darius Jauniskis noted the possibility of terrorism but refrained from making any definitive claims. He also referenced the growing aggression from Russia, but emphasized that no conclusions could be drawn until more information was available.
