The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has temporarily stopped approving new private housing schemes in Rawalpindi Tehsil until the completion of its master plan. This move aims to ensure a more organized and sustainable approach to urban development.

RDA Director General Kanza Murtaza, speaking at the Rawalpindi Press Club, revealed that a detailed list of illegal housing schemes has been prepared after five months of rigorous work. Forums have also been established to protect the rights of investors affected by these unauthorized projects.

Murtaza stated that policies are being developed to prevent illegal constructions from progressing beyond the initial stages, reducing the need for later regularization. She also warned that strict action would be taken against any RDA employees involved in supporting such activities.

Highlighting a housing project by Chinese investors, Murtaza assured that its security remains a priority. She also emphasized the need to balance economic growth in the housing sector with the protection of agricultural land, which is crucial for sustainable development.

The ban on approving new housing schemes will stay in place until the master plan aligns with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision for planned and regulated urban expansion.
