The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Sumair Ahmad Syed as the Tournament Director for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan. Sumair, who is the PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the success of the tournament, as Pakistan prepares to host this major international cricket event. PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi praised Sumair for his organisational skills and experience, expressing confidence that the event would showcase Pakistan’s ability to host world-class sporting events.
Sumair Ahmad Syed expressed his excitement and commitment to the role, highlighting that preparations for the tournament, including stadium upgrades, are already underway. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the experienced events team, which has previously organised the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), ensuring a high standard for the ICC Champions Trophy.

However, the announcement of the tournament schedule has been delayed again. The tournament, scheduled for February-March 2025, faces uncertainty due to disagreements over the hybrid model for the event. The model suggests hosting some matches at neutral venues, which the PCB strongly opposes, especially for a potential Pakistan-India match. This ongoing issue has stalled finalising the schedule, with both broadcasters and commercial partners insisting on including the high-profile Pakistan-India clash for the event to proceed as planned.
