The government’s decision to ban unregistered VPNs has raised concerns from the Wireless and Internet Service Providers Association, which has called for a balanced and fair regulatory framework.
In its statement, the association underscored the critical role of VPNs in protecting privacy, enabling secure communication, and maintaining access to online resources.

It cautioned that overly broad restrictions could harm IT exports, financial transactions, and research activities, posing risks to vital sectors of the economy and hindering digital progress.
While advocating for the responsible use of VPNs within the boundaries of national laws to prevent misuse, the association stressed that policies should not disrupt the operations of law-abiding users. It also highlighted the need to promote an environment that supports digital freedom, knowledge sharing, and commerce.
The association urged the government to develop policies that balance national security concerns with the advancement of Pakistan’s digital economy.
