In a piece of good news for consumers, electricity prices are expected to drop by Rs1.1 per unit for the month of October. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve the reduction, citing lower-than-expected costs for electricity generation.
The application for the October fuel price adjustment was filed after the CPPA reported that the cost of generation was much lower than initially anticipated. The hearing for the application is scheduled for November 26, when NEPRA will make its final decision.

The CPPA reported that 9.98 billion units of electricity were sold in October. The fuel cost per unit of generation was recorded at Rs9.26, significantly less than the estimated Rs10.27 per unit. This reduction in fuel costs is the primary reason behind the proposed price decrease.
However, it’s important to note that the reduction will not apply to customers of K-Electric.
This move comes as a much-needed relief to consumers, offering a break from the rising cost of living and providing hope that the reduction will ease some of the financial burdens on households and businesses across Pakistan.
