A female security guard working for a private firm at the University of Sahiwal (UoS) has filed a gang rape case against five male colleagues, including a supervisor. The incident allegedly took place five months ago on the university campus, where the complainant claims she was assaulted and filmed by the accused.
According to reports from Dawn News, the complainant initially reported the assault to university authorities, including Dr. Tariq Masood and the Vice-Chancellor’s office. However, she alleges her complaint was ignored, and instead of an investigation, the university terminated her employment, leaving her open to further threats and blackmail by the suspects.
Civil Lines Police SHO Rai Nasir confirmed that a gang rape case has been registered against the five suspects. Two of them have been arrested, one remains at large, and two have been granted interim bail until November 16. Police are looking into various aspects of the case, including the delay in filing her complaint and efforts to locate the alleged video of the assault.
In response, UoS spokesperson Dr. Ayub issued a statement denying the allegations, labeling the case as a “conspiracy by self-interested elements.” However, Dawn obtained a document showing that the university had previously requested the removal of both the complainant and the suspects due to “law and order” concerns.
Sources within the university have revealed tensions between Dr. Tariq Masood, a university official, and the security supervisor who is now accused in the rape case. The supervisor had reportedly raised concerns about the misappropriation of Rs. 900,000 in transport funds, claiming that university buses were completing fewer trips than recorded, causing significant financial losses. He had even called for a fuel audit, but after this, the rape allegations surfaced.
Dr. Masood, who oversees the transport and security departments, denied the accusations of embezzlement, asserting that no formal complaint had ever been filed. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining all angles of the case.
