PCB Responds to Indian Media Reports on 'Hybrid Model' for Champions Trophy 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified that the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will be hosted by Pakistan, will not follow a “hybrid model” as previously suggested by some Indian media reports.

Rumors had circulated that Pakistan might adjust its schedule to host India’s matches in the UAE due to political and security concerns. However, PCB sources have firmly dismissed these claims, emphasizing that all matches of the tournament will take place exclusively within Pakistan. The PCB has committed to hosting the tournament in Pakistan and is actively working to upgrade its venues to meet international standards.

The Asia Cup 2023 was conducted in a hybrid model due to India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan, with India’s matches held in Sri Lanka. However, the PCB has clarified that this arrangement will not be adopted for the Champions Trophy.

An ICC delegation is set to visit Lahore from November 10 to 12 to assess Pakistan’s preparations for the tournament. A key event is expected on November 11, during which the tournament’s schedule and details will be revealed.

The proposed groupings for the tournament are as follows:

  • Group A: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand
  • Group B: England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan

India’s participation is still contingent on the Indian government’s decision regarding the team’s travel to Pakistan.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, with matches to be held across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Lahore will host seven matches, including the final on March 9, while Karachi’s National Stadium will host the opening match and one semi-final. The other semi-final will be in Rawalpindi.
