The Lahore High Court has issued a ban on the use of smoke-emitting commercial generators in specific “green lockdown” areas as part of efforts to combat air pollution and reduce smog. Justice Shahid Karim, while hearing petitions filed by citizens including Haroon Farooq, directed that pollution control devices must be installed in commercial generators within seven days. Until then, these generators are to remain sealed to prevent harmful emissions.
In addition to this measure, the court has ordered the removal of encroachments in pollution hotspot areas to alleviate congestion and improve air quality. Justice Karim praised the government’s efforts and the actions of the director general of environment, noting that these steps would contribute positively to the overall environmental situation.

Moreover, the Lahore Division commissioner has been instructed to provide a report within 15 days on the environmental impact of Kasur tanneries, while the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been directed to implement findings from an inquiry into underpass renovations.
The hearing has been adjourned until Friday, allowing time for progress to be reported on these various environmental initiatives.
