Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has expressed his support for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection panel’s decision to drop key players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah from the Test squad ahead of the second Test against England in Multan.
In a post on social media platform X, Afridi emphasized that excluding these star players from the lineup could ultimately be beneficial for the team. He argued that the much-needed rest would help rejuvenate the players and potentially extend their careers.

Afridi highlighted that this decision also provides an opportunity to test emerging talent within the squad, allowing younger players to gain valuable game experience. He believes this approach will strengthen Pakistan’s overall talent pool.
Notably, Shahid Afridi is the father-in-law of pacer Shaheen Afridi, but he refrained from singling out any player in his remarks. His endorsement of the selectors comes amidst ongoing turmoil within the PCB, with rising concerns regarding team management and captaincy.
Interestingly, Afridi’s comments follow warnings from former cricketer and analyst Basit Ali, who advised him to be cautious about his relationships within the team. Ali suggested that Shaheen Afridi has been unfairly targeted by those in charge, indicating a broader discussion about favoritism and internal politics within the PCB.
