The Sahara, the world’s largest desert, experienced its first flooding in 50 years following rare rainfall in Morocco. Satellite images showed Lake Iriqui, a dry lake bed for half a century, filling up.
Southeastern Morocco, usually dry in late summer, saw two days of rain in September, surpassing the annual average in areas with under 250 millimeters of rain yearly.

Tata, one of the worst-affected regions, recorded over 100 millimeters of rain within 24 hours in the village of Tagounite, located about 450 kilometers south of Rabat.
