Pakistan Railways has announced a 10% reduction in train fares for all AC and economy classes, effective September 23. This fare cut applies to express and mail trains nationwide, aimed at providing relief to passengers amid rising travel costs.

The decision follows a recent decrease in fuel prices, with the federal government lowering petrol prices by Rs. 10 per liter, from Rs. 259.10 to Rs. 249.10.

In addition to petrol, prices for kerosene oil and light diesel oil have also seen reductions, with kerosene dropping by Rs. 11.15 to Rs. 158.47 per liter and light diesel oil by Rs. 12.12 to Rs. 141.93.

High-speed diesel prices decreased by Rs. 13.06, now costing Rs. 249.69. Alongside these fare adjustments, Pakistan Railways is introducing a public-private partnership (PPP) model for operating certain passenger trains, inviting bids for ten routes, including the Karachi Express and Awam Express. Technical evaluations of the bids will be conducted on the same day, according to officials.
