On Wednesday, the US Embassy in Pakistan announced a significant reduction in visa appointment wait times across various categories to enhance the efficiency of the visa processing system. An embassy official revealed that the wait times for visa appointments have been cut from 440 days to 230 days. This change aims to simplify the visa application process for Pakistani applicants.
The embassy has implemented several measures to expedite the processing of student, business, and family reunion visas to minimize wait times as much as possible. “We are working diligently to manage the increased demand and assist as many applicants as possible,” the official stated.

Previously, the embassies in Islamabad and Karachi processed approximately 10,000 visa applications per month. The official emphasized that the embassy is continuously improving its procedures to further shorten wait times. For applicants who have already submitted their visa applications, the embassy provides a case review system via email. Each application is reviewed individually, with decisions typically made within three to four working days after the interview. The official noted that only the standard application fee, consistent globally, is applied. Additionally, the previous year saw a record number of visa applicants, reflecting a surge in demand for US visas in Pakistan.
