Renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been detained by Dubai police after being stopped from boarding a flight at Dubai Airport. He was taken to the Bar Dubai police station. Sources indicate that Salman Ahmed, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s former manager and a well-known showbiz promoter, has filed a case against him in Dubai. However, it is reported that the singer has not been formally arrested.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was in Dubai to perform at various musical shows. Earlier this year, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan initiated a money-laundering and tax evasion inquiry into the singer, revealing that he had earned nearly Rs8 billion over 12 years from local and international concerts. The tax inquiry came amidst a scandal involving a video that showed Rahat Fateh Ali Khan repeatedly beating a band member over a missing bottle of liquor, which shocked many worldwide. Rahat, a significant contributor to Bollywood music, has been under scrutiny since the video’s emergence.
