Donald Sutherland, the revered Canadian actor known for his diverse and powerful performances in films like “M.A.S.H,” “Klute,” “Ordinary People,” and “The Hunger Games,” passed away at the age of 88. His son, actor Kiefer Sutherland, announced the news on social media. Sutherland’s career spanned over six decades, during which he portrayed a wide array of characters, ranging from romantic leads to eccentric villains.
Born on July 17, 1935, in New Brunswick, Canada, and raised in Nova Scotia, Sutherland began his acting journey in school productions before moving to Britain to refine his skills. His breakthrough came with the 1967 war film “The Dirty Dozen,” and he skyrocketed to fame with his role as Hawkeye Pierce in the 1970 film “M.A.S.H,” a satire on the Korean War that resonated with the anti-war sentiment of the Vietnam War era.
