While Gaza faces a severe humanitarian crisis and numerous nations advocate for a truce, Washington has reaffirmed its support for Tel Aviv and reiterated its stance to quash Hamas.
The vote transpired following alarming statements from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding the global threat posed by the ongoing two-month-long conflict. Israel’s relentless aerial bombardment, imposing a blockade, and advancing ground assault have transformed significant portions of Gaza into wastelands, displacing over 80% of the population and causing shortages of essential resources.

Despite the escalating humanitarian nightmare and continual casualties, Israel persists in its assault from north to south. UN chief Antonio Guterres emphasized the perilous conditions in Gaza just before the U.S. veto.
The vote left the Biden-led administration diplomatically isolated on the 15-member council, with over a dozen members supporting the resolution backed by the UAE, while Britain abstained. The U.S. deputy ambassador to the UN clarified that Washington does not endorse a resolution calling for an unsustainable ceasefire but supports pauses in attacks, facilitating the release of hostages by Hamas and increased humanitarian aid flow.
Over the past two months, Israel’s bombardment has claimed the lives of approximately 17,177 Palestinians, leaving thousands injured.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
