United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has introduced a 39-member advisory committee aimed at addressing global challenges in the realm of artificial intelligence governance.
This diverse panel includes a range of individuals, from leaders in technology companies to government officials from countries like Spain and Saudi Arabia, as well as academics representing nations such as the United States, Russia, and Japan.

Key technology figures, including Hiroaki Kitano, Sony’s Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, and Natasha Crampton, Chief Responsible AI Officer at Microsoft, are among the executive representatives from tech companies on this advisory panel.
As many governments are actively developing legislation to regulate the spread of AI, there is a growing call for international cooperation from various quarters, including researchers and policymakers.
The United Nations panel aims to provide initial recommendations by the end of the current year, with the final set of recommendations anticipated to be released by the summer of 2024.
