Relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) appear to be returning to their previous pattern. The number of visas issued to Pakistani nationals has reportedly returned to its earlier pace.
Highly placed diplomatic sources said the UAE government is issuing around 30,000 visas to Pakistanis each month. Travel agents are also using the available facility, adding to the total number of visas processed.
The development signals an improvement in travel arrangements for Pakistani nationals seeking to visit the Gulf country. However, the reported figures come from diplomatic sources and have not been independently confirmed.
Sources also discussed the recent deportations of Pakistani nationals from the UAE. They said some deported individuals were involved in offences linked to the regional conflict and actions against the country.
According to the sources, UAE authorities took a lenient approach toward these individuals. Instead of sending them to prison or prosecuting them in court, the authorities reportedly directed them to leave the country.
The sources added that Pakistani immigrants had become more aware of the sensitivity surrounding the situation. They said no Pakistani nationals had been forced to leave the UAE in recent weeks.
Around 2.2 million Pakistanis are currently working in the country, according to the figures shared by the sources. Approximately 3,500 Pakistanis were deported over recent months.
The sources also credited the UAE’s new ambassador to Pakistan, Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, with playing a constructive role. His efforts have reportedly supported improvements in relations between the two countries.
Pakistan and the UAE have maintained close ties since the Gulf state’s establishment in 1971. Their relationship covers strategic cooperation, trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
The UAE is also an important destination for Pakistani workers and professionals. Millions of Pakistanis live and work there, contributing to both countries through employment and business activities.
Remittances sent by Pakistani workers in the UAE provide significant support to Pakistan’s economy. These transfers help households meet expenses and contribute to the country’s foreign exchange inflows.
Trade between Pakistan and the UAE is estimated at around $8 billion. Economic ties include energy, consumer goods, and real estate investments.
The reported return to earlier visa issuance levels could help Pakistani travellers and businesses. It may also support continued people-to-people contacts and economic cooperation between the two countries.
