[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]A recent exchange on a morning show between actresses Imran Abbas and Sanam Jung sparked a debate over body image and interpersonal dynamics. Though expressed in jest, Abbas’ comment raises concerns about fat shaming and the need of maintaining courteous behaviour, particularly among close friends.

Abbas called in to the morning show, and Jung was already rattled at the prospect of chatting with her friend on national television in this fashion. When the host, Madeha Naqvi, asked Abbas for advise for Jung, he said, “When you come back from America, lose 10 kg and return.” The host and Jung chuckled about it, but Naqvi’s astonished visage remained on camera as Jung continued to laugh.

Abbas, on the other hand, continues and praises his friend. “I tell [Jung] all the time that she lives in her own universe. She doesn’t care; she does whatever she wants. She chooses projects for herself, as well as advertising. Despite the fact that she has numerous offers.”

The actor then described how Jung has contacted him at 2 a.m., running offers past him, and how, even when he believes the pay is excessive, he is surprised to learn that she frequently secures that amount, sometimes even exceeding the initial price.

When he complains that Jung does not listen to him, she responds, “Since I started working with [Abbas], he’s been so particular about his food, gym, and everything else.” He’s a really disciplined individual. When I ask him how he does it, he replies he comes to the same shoot as me, but he creates time. ‘What is your issue?’ he inquires.” Jung continued to joke about her admiration for his discipline.

Jung has made important contributions to the entertainment business as an actor, television host, and model. While awards do not determine one’s value, it is important to note that all of these successes cannot be eclipsed by what the star’s weighing scale reads. Abbas, a highly talented actor, model, and singer who has also performed internationally, must be aware of and perform better when it comes to statements made on national television.

While the remark was probably meant as a jest, it attracted attention to the prevalence of body shaming in society. Fat shaming, in particular, promotes negative body image and can have significant psychological and emotional consequences. It is critical to know that body weight cannot be used as a basis for judgement or derision.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
