Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has thanked consumers for supporting the government’s power management measures.
The Power Minister said citizens accepted a few hours of nighttime load management. He said their cooperation helped lower electricity costs.
Leghari shared the remarks while discussing the latest Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) figures.
According to the Power Minister, the FCA for August 2026 dropped to around Rs. 1.73 per unit. The previous month’s FCA stood at Rs. 2.0851 per unit.
He said the reduction helped protect electricity consumers from an additional financial burden. The Power Division prevented an extra cost of more than Rs. 10.6 billion.
The Power Minister also said the measures helped save valuable foreign exchange. He credited consumers for supporting the government during a difficult period.
Global fuel prices have remained under pressure due to international market conditions. The situation around the Strait of Hormuz has also affected energy markets.
Leghari said increased use of domestic energy sources helped reduce electricity generation costs.
Around 72 percent of Pakistan’s electricity generation came from local sources in August. Hydropower accounted for the largest share at 38 percent.
Local coal contributed 11 percent to total generation. Nuclear power accounted for another 10 percent during the month.
Local gas provided 7 percent of electricity generation. Wind energy contributed 6 percent, while solar power accounted for 1 percent.
The remaining 28 percent of electricity generation came from imported sources. These included imported coal and Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG).
Leghari said disruptions in RLNG supplies created additional pressure on the energy sector.
Spot cargo prices for RLNG reached between $23 and $25 per MMBtu. The Power Minister described these prices as unusually expensive.
The government also took steps to increase the availability of local gas for power generation.
The Power Division coordinated with the Petroleum Division on the matter. It also worked with the National Coordination and Monitoring Committee (NCMC).
These efforts helped arrange additional local gas supplies for the power sector.
The government aims to reduce dependence on costly imported fuels. Greater reliance on local energy sources could help manage future electricity costs.
Leghari said consumer cooperation remained important in controlling expenses. He thanked citizens for accepting temporary nighttime load management.
