Lahore’s Ferozepur Road is set for a major upgrade as the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) prepares a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the area.
The proposed project will cover around 15 kilometers of Ferozepur Road. The planned stretch will run from Lahore Canal to Gajjumata.
The LDA Engineering Wing has prepared the development plan based on sustainable development principles. Officials have also considered the development model used in Gulberg.
The proposed improvements will include rehabilitation of the main road. The project will also introduce better walkways and improved pedestrian facilities along the busy route.
Tile work and designated seating areas are also part of the plan. These additions are expected to improve the appearance and usability of public spaces.
The LDA also plans to introduce standardized exterior designs for buildings located along Ferozepur Road. Improved signboards will form another part of the proposed upgrade.
New sidewalks are also planned along the road. The initiative aims to create safer and more organized walking spaces for pedestrians.
Markets located along Ferozepur Road are also expected to receive improvements. The LDA plans to upgrade commercial areas while creating dedicated walking spaces outside shops.
Officials are considering the approach used during the rehabilitation of markets in Ichhra. The model focuses on improving public spaces while maintaining commercial activity.
The proposed changes could significantly alter the appearance of one of Lahore’s busiest roads. Ferozepur Road is an important route connecting several major residential and commercial areas.
The road also experiences heavy traffic throughout the day. Better sidewalks and organized market areas could help improve movement for pedestrians and motorists.
The development plan comes after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently visited Ferozepur Road, Nishtar and Youhanabad.
During her visit, the chief minister took notice of potholes and the deteriorated condition of Ferozepur Road. She directed the LDA to take immediate steps for its rehabilitation.
The LDA has subsequently prepared a broader plan covering both the road and surrounding areas. The proposed work goes beyond simple road repairs.
The authority is also focusing on improving the overall streetscape. Building exteriors, signage, sidewalks and public seating will be included in the development approach.
The project is expected to improve the experience for both pedestrians and motorists. Better-designed commercial areas could also provide a more organized environment for businesses and customers.
The focus on sustainable development is intended to ensure that improvements remain functional and visually consistent. The Gulberg development model has been used as a reference for the proposed work.
