TikTok LIVE continues to attract millions of users in Pakistan, becoming one of the country’s most popular live-streaming platforms. However, its growing popularity has also brought increased scrutiny as concerns rise over explicit content, monetization practices, and the exposure of minors to inappropriate material.
In recent days, social media has been flooded with claims suggesting that the government may take regulatory action against TikTok LIVE. Viral posts allege that authorities are considering restricting the platform’s LIVE streaming and monetization features, with reports claiming local banks could be instructed to stop processing payments to Pakistani creators.
The speculation gained further attention after PML-N lawmaker Hina Parvez Butt criticized the platform in a social media post. She argued that TikTok LIVE encourages indecent content in pursuit of financial rewards and expressed concern that many young people are influenced by creators seeking quick fame and income. She also warned that such content could negatively impact children and society.
If any restrictions on TikTok LIVE monetization were introduced, thousands of Pakistani creators who rely on the platform for income could be affected. Officials are reportedly concerned that the LIVE gifting system may encourage some users to produce increasingly sensational or explicit broadcasts to attract viewers and maximize earnings.
The debate surrounding TikTok LIVE is not entirely new. Pakistan has previously imposed temporary restrictions on TikTok, including bans in 2020, citing concerns over content considered immoral or inappropriate. Authorities have repeatedly urged the platform to strengthen its moderation systems and ensure compliance with local laws.
Concerns over LIVE-stream monetization have also emerged in several other countries, where policymakers and child safety advocates argue that virtual gifts and financial incentives may encourage risky or inappropriate online behavior.
Despite widespread discussion on social media, there has been no official announcement from the federal government or the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirming plans to ban TikTok LIVE or suspend creator payments. For now, the claims remain unverified, and no formal policy changes have been announced regarding the platform’s LIVE streaming or monetization features.
