The Punjab government has launched the “Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat” portal, enabling eligible residents to apply for interest-free loans to repair unsafe roofs, strengthen homes, or expand existing houses.
The initiative, introduced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was launched in memory of the children who lost their lives in the Kahna roof collapse tragedy and aims to improve housing safety across the province.
Under the scheme, eligible applicants can receive up to Rs. 500,000 as an interest-free loan to repair, reinforce, or secure the roof of their home.
Residents looking to expand their homes can also apply for up to Rs. 1 million in interest-free financing to construct an additional room or build a second storey.
To make repayments more affordable, the Punjab government has reduced the monthly installment from Rs. 14,000 to a range of Rs. 4,700 to Rs. 9,300, depending on the loan amount.
Applicants can submit their requests online through the official portal at acag.punjab.gov.pk. They may also apply by visiting their Deputy Commissioner (DC) office, Assistant Commissioner (AC) office, or the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA).
For guidance and further information, the government has established a toll-free helpline: 0800-09100.
According to the Punjab government, more than 173,000 interest-free loans worth over Rs. 224.4 billion have already been disbursed under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing program.
The new initiative is expected to help improve housing safety while making home repairs and expansion more accessible for families across Punjab.
