Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced plans to establish a Chinese Language and Culture Center to provide students with opportunities to learn the Chinese language while strengthening academic and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and China.
The new center will be launched through a collaboration between AIOU and Teng Chinese International under a formal cooperation agreement. As part of the partnership, both organizations will work together to promote Chinese language education, develop academic programs, offer professional skills training, and facilitate exchange opportunities for students and faculty members.
Speaking about the initiative, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasir Mahmood said the university is committed to equipping students with practical knowledge and internationally relevant skills. He noted that learning Chinese will enable students to gain a deeper understanding of China’s language, culture, education system, and growing global influence.
According to the university administration, the establishment of the new center reflects AIOU’s continued efforts to expand international educational opportunities for its students. The university already operates language centers dedicated to Turkish, Japanese, and Russian, and the addition of Chinese language education will further strengthen its multilingual academic offerings.
Officials believe the Chinese Language and Culture Center will enhance educational collaboration between Pakistan and China while opening new academic and professional opportunities for students. The initiative is also expected to promote cultural exchange, improve language proficiency, and encourage research and educational partnerships between institutions in both countries.
With the introduction of the new center, AIOU aims to prepare students for an increasingly interconnected global environment by providing access to internationally recognized language programs and fostering stronger academic ties with Chinese educational institutions in the years ahead.
