Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Tuesday that it launched missile and drone strikes targeting military facilities linked to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The announcement came as tensions between Iran and the United States continued to escalate across the Middle East.
According to the IRGC, the operation damaged the Fifth Fleet’s air surveillance radar and also hit Patriot missile defense radar equipment and a C-RAM early warning radar system located in Bahrain. The group further claimed that fuel storage facilities and a command center used for unmanned naval vessels were also destroyed during the attack.
The IRGC said its retaliatory military campaign remains ongoing and warned that further operations could follow. However, at the time of its announcement, neither the United States nor Bahraini authorities had publicly confirmed or responded to the claims made by the Iranian force.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had completed its latest wave of military strikes against Iran. According to an official statement, the operation lasted five hours and targeted military sites in Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas.
CENTCOM said U.S. forces used precision-guided munitions to strike Iranian coastal defense systems, missile and drone sites, and maritime military capabilities. The military said the operation was aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping routes in the region.
The United States also confirmed that more than 50,000 American service members remain deployed across the Middle East. Officials said U.S. forces continue to remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to any further escalation.
The latest developments come a day after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States would assume responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said the strategic waterway would remain open to international shipping “with or without Iran” and proposed reinstating what he described as an Iranian blockade.
Under Trump’s proposal, Iranian vessels and their customers would be prevented from entering or leaving through the Strait of Hormuz, while ships from other countries would continue to have unrestricted access. The announcement has further increased tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important maritime regions.
