NDMA Issues Flood and Landslide Alert as Heavy Rain Returns to Pakistan

The NDMA has issued a fresh warning about possible floods, flash floods, and landslides as another spell of monsoon rain is expected across Pakistan. The wet weather is likely to continue from July 11 to July 14, affecting several parts of the country.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist winds from the Arabian Sea are becoming stronger. A westerly weather system is also moving into the region. Together, these weather systems are expected to bring rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to many areas.

The NDMA has asked provincial and local authorities to remain on alert. It warned that heavy rainfall could cause flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions. Emergency departments have also been advised to stay prepared for any possible situation.

Rain is expected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, along with many cities in Punjab. These include Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum. Some places may receive heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of urban flooding.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is likely in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Malakand, Kohat, Bannu, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, Shangla, Kurram, and Waziristan. The NDMA said these hilly areas are more vulnerable to landslides and flash floods during heavy downpours. People living near rivers, streams, and mountain slopes should remain cautious.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to receive heavy rainfall during this weather spell. Due to the mountainous landscape, these regions face a higher risk of landslides and overflowing streams. Local administrations have been urged to monitor conditions closely and respond quickly if needed.

The PMD has also forecast rain in several districts of Sindh. These include Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, and Khairpur. Heavy showers may occur in isolated areas, which could disrupt daily activities and traffic.

Balochistan is also likely to receive rainfall in many districts. The forecast includes Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Sherani, Ziarat, Sibbi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Awaran, Lasbela, and Gwadar. Some locations may experience moderate to heavy rain.

Authorities have advised people to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips to flood-prone and mountainous areas during heavy rainfall. Drivers are also urged to be careful on wet roads, where visibility and road conditions may worsen.
