Landslide Alert issued for Juglot-Skardu Road by NDMA

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a landslide warning for the Juglot-Skardu Road (JSR) and the Skardu-Roundu section, advising tourists and commuters to avoid unnecessary travel over the next 48 hours due to increased risks.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), continuous rainfall and ongoing soil erosion in northern Pakistan could trigger landslides between July 7 and July 9. The authority warned that weather conditions remain unstable and may create dangerous travel conditions across several mountainous areas.

The alert specifically highlights Skardu and nearby locations, including Bromdo Nullah, Chamcho, Malupa, and the Dambodas-Tormik-Haramosh section, as areas that are particularly vulnerable to landslides during the forecast period.

The NDMA stated that the current weather pattern matches its earlier forecasts, which had predicted heavy rainfall and increased geological activity in the region. It added that rising water levels in local streams, combined with soil erosion and possible mudslides, could further increase the risk for travelers using mountain roads.

In view of the potential hazards, the disaster management authority has instructed local administrations and relevant departments to remain on high alert. Emergency response teams have been directed to ensure preparedness so they can respond quickly to any road blockages, landslides, or weather-related emergencies.

The NDMA has strongly urged tourists, transport operators, and local residents to exercise extreme caution while traveling through hilly areas. People have been advised to avoid routes passing near steep slopes or known landslide-prone locations unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Authorities also encouraged the public to stay informed by using the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application. The app provides real-time weather warnings, emergency notifications, and verified safety guidelines to help citizens make informed travel decisions.

The NDMA emphasized that following official advisories and avoiding unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Officials said they will continue monitoring the situation closely and issue further updates if weather conditions worsen or additional threats emerge in the affected regions
