Fresh petitions have been filed in the Islamabad High Court challenging the alleged solitary confinement of the PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi. The petitions were submitted on Saturday, raising serious concerns about their detention conditions.
The petitions were filed by PTI founder’s sister Aleema Khan, PTI senators, and Bushra Bibi’s daughter. Barrister Salman Safdar submitted the petitions on their behalf.
The petitioners claim that the current conditions violate basic constitutional rights. They also point to prolonged isolation and limited access to family members and medical care.
The Islamabad High Court has been urged to declare the alleged solitary confinement illegal. The petitioners argue that no lawful court order authorizes such treatment.
Several senior officials have been named as respondents in the case. These include the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, the Punjab Inspector General of Prisons, the NAB chairman, and the FIA Director General.
According to the petitions, the matter surfaced during a meeting between the PTI founder and his lawyer on April 8. It was during this meeting that the alleged solitary confinement of both individuals was disclosed.
The documents state that the PTI founder has not been allowed to meet any family member or party leader for the past six months. The petitioners argue that this restriction is excessive and unjustified.
The Islamabad High Court has been informed that no court judgment or legal order supports the alleged solitary confinement. The petition describes the treatment as inhumane and against legal principles.
The petitions also claim that the PTI founder reported serious health issues. It is stated that around 85 percent of vision in one eye has been affected.
The petitioners further argue that solitary confinement is one of the harshest forms of punishment. They maintain that it was not included in the original sentence issued by the court.
The Islamabad High Court has been requested to intervene and ensure protection of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution.
The court is expected to review the petitions and seek responses from the concerned authorities before proceeding further in the matter.
