PMD Predicts Monsoon Arrival in Pakistan From July 1

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the monsoon season is likely to begin in parts of Pakistan from July 1, bringing rainfall to northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, and the country’s northern regions after weeks of intense summer heat.

PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir said monsoon currents are expected to enter Pakistan through northeastern Punjab and Kashmir. The weather system is likely to produce rain in several northern districts and parts of Punjab, providing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave and improving weather conditions in affected areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the initial spell of monsoon rain will mainly affect northern Pakistan, while southern regions are expected to remain largely dry. Authorities have advised residents to stay updated on weather forecasts, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides.

Regarding Karachi and other parts of Sindh, Anjum Nazir said there is currently no forecast for widespread monsoon rainfall until July 5. However, he noted that a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal could influence weather conditions and may bring rain to Karachi and some parts of Sindh in the coming days.

The PMD also indicated that Sindh is expected to receive below-normal rainfall during this year’s monsoon season. Officials said weather conditions will continue to be monitored closely, and fresh advisories will be issued if the developing system changes its course or intensity.

Highlighting regional weather trends, the PMD spokesperson said India recorded 43 percent below-normal rainfall during June. Meteorologists will continue monitoring the progress of the monsoon system as it advances across the region, with authorities urging the public to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain.
