Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum) Ali Pervaiz Malik has defended the government’s fuel pricing policy, saying Pakistan is neither favoring any particular sector nor placing an unfair burden on others.
In a statement shared on X, the minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reduced diesel prices by a cumulative Rs200 per litre and petrol prices by Rs155 per litre during the current government’s tenure.
Ali Pervaiz Malik also shared international Platts benchmark prices for petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) over the past week, stating that the government closely monitors global fuel markets when determining domestic petroleum prices.
According to the figures released by the minister, petrol benchmark prices declined from $98.35 per barrel on June 22 to $91.68 per barrel on June 26. Meanwhile, diesel prices eased from $109.09 per barrel to $104.79 per barrel during the same period.
The minister said the government remains committed to passing on the maximum possible relief to consumers whenever international market conditions permit, while also fulfilling Pakistan’s international financial obligations.
He added that the government will continue to review fuel prices in line with global oil market trends and ensure that consumers benefit from any sustainable decline in international petroleum prices.
