Apple has announced significant price increases across several Mac and iPad products, citing rising semiconductor costs as the primary reason for the move. The changes affect multiple devices in the company’s product lineup and represent one of the largest pricing adjustments by Apple in recent years.
According to the company, higher costs associated with advanced chip production and packaging have made the increases necessary. The global semiconductor industry has been facing growing expenses due to strong demand for artificial intelligence technologies and next-generation computing hardware.
Among the most notable changes, Apple has increased the starting price of the MacBook Air by $200. The device now starts at $1,299 instead of its previous price of $1,099.
The base MacBook Pro has also received a substantial price increase. Its starting price has risen by $300, bringing the new cost to $1,999. Based on an exchange rate of around Rs. 280 per US dollar, this increase could significantly affect retail prices in Pakistan before taxes and importer margins are added.
Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said the adjustments were unavoidable. He noted that rising semiconductor costs have increased production expenses across several product categories.
The company has also raised the price of the MacBook Neo. The entry-level model now starts at $699 after a $100 increase from its previous price of $599.
Several iPad models have also become more expensive. The iPad Air now costs $749, which is $150 higher than before. Meanwhile, the base iPad Pro now starts at $1,199 after a $200 increase.
In addition to MacBooks and iPads, Apple has adjusted prices for other products. The iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, and Vision Pro have all received price increases.
The largest increase among listed products was recorded for the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra chip. Its price jumped from $3,999 to $5,299, representing an increase of $1,300.
Despite the broad adjustments, Apple has left prices unchanged for several popular products. The iPhone lineup, Apple Watch models, AirPods, Studio Display, and many accessories continue to be sold at their previous prices.
Industry experts say the rising cost of advanced semiconductors is affecting technology companies worldwide. Increased demand for AI-focused hardware has placed additional pressure on chip manufacturers and supply chains.
