Punjab Announces Two Public Holidays for Ashura

The Punjab government has officially announced public holidays across the province on the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram to facilitate religious observances during Ashura.

According to a notification issued by the provincial government, all government offices, departments, and public institutions will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

The holidays have been declared in view of religious gatherings, majalis, and mourning processions held across Punjab to commemorate Ashura, one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar.

Provincial authorities stated that the decision is intended to allow citizens to participate in religious activities and observe Muharram rituals with greater ease and convenience.

The government has also intensified security measures across the province ahead of the observances. Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert to ensure the peaceful conduct of processions, majalis, and other religious gatherings during the two-day holiday period.

Officials said comprehensive security and traffic management plans have been prepared to maintain public safety and facilitate participants attending Muharram events.

The Punjab government urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and follow official guidelines to help ensure peaceful observances throughout Ashura.
