The district administration has stepped up its campaign against profiteering and hoarding, carrying out 3,245 inspections across the city and arresting seven shopkeepers for repeated violations of official price lists.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Ali Ijaz, with price control magistrates inspecting markets and commercial centers to ensure the availability of quality food items at government-notified rates.
Officials carried out surprise inspections and dummy purchases to detect overcharging and violations of food quality standards. During the crackdown, authorities identified 45 outlets involved in serious breaches of pricing regulations and quality requirements.
The administration imposed fines amounting to Rs194,000 on violators, while seven shopkeepers were arrested on the spot for repeatedly disregarding official directives. Warnings were issued in cases involving minor violations.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Ijaz directed price control teams to further strengthen field operations and ensure that all businesses prominently display official rate lists for consumers.
He reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against hoarding and profiteering, warning that strict legal action would continue against individuals involved in overcharging or the sale of substandard and expired food products.
The administration stated that ongoing inspections are aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring compliance with government pricing regulations across the city.
