Govt Allocates Rs16.3 Billion for IT Projects in Budget 2026-27

The federal government has proposed an allocation of Rs. 16.29 billion for ongoing projects under the Information Technology and Telecommunication Division in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2026-27.

The funding is aimed at supporting key digital infrastructure, innovation, and technology development initiatives that are currently being implemented across Pakistan as part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Among the largest allocations is the Technology Park Development Project in Islamabad, which is set to receive Rs. 6.81 billion during the next fiscal year. The project is considered one of the government’s flagship investments and is designed to provide a modern ecosystem for technology companies, startups, and innovation-driven businesses.

The World Bank-backed Digital Economy Enhancement Project has been allocated Rs. 3.02 billion, while the Establishment of IT Park at Karachi project will receive Rs. 3.75 billion. Both projects are expected to play a vital role in strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy, attracting investment, and creating new opportunities for the technology sector.

Several strategic initiatives have also been included in the PSDP allocation. These include Rs. 1 billion for the Revamping of IT Industry program, Rs. 524.64 million for the National Artificial Intelligence Advancement Initiative, Rs. 330 million for Cyber Security for Digital Pakistan, and Rs. 250 million for the National Semiconductor Human Resource Development Program.

In addition, funding has been proposed for the Smart Islamabad Initiative, expansion of cellular connectivity in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and programs focused on compliance and export enhancement.

Overall, the projects fall under a combined portfolio worth Rs. 79.79 billion, with Rs. 16.29 billion proposed for FY2026-27 to ensure the continued progress of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and technology development goals.
