The Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has launched a major enforcement campaign against token tax defaulters, warning vehicle owners that unpaid dues could result in heavy penalties and vehicle seizures. As the current financial year approaches its conclusion, authorities have intensified efforts to recover outstanding taxes across the province.
According to Director General Excise Omar Sher Chatha, individuals who have not paid their token tax are being urged to clear their outstanding liabilities immediately. He warned that defaulters will face a 100 percent penalty surcharge on unpaid amounts if they fail to comply. Officials have made it clear that no exemptions or relaxations will be granted during the ongoing recovery drive.
Under the latest operation, vehicles with unpaid token tax may be impounded during inspections and enforcement checks. In addition, strict action will also be taken against unregistered vehicles operating on roads across Punjab. The department plans to increase monitoring activities and conduct targeted enforcement operations in all districts to identify violators.
The Excise Department also highlighted its recent revenue performance. During the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, the department collected approximately Rs70 billion, reflecting a significant increase compared to the previous year. Officials reported that revenue collections have exceeded last year’s figures by around Rs15 billion.
Out of the total revenue, nearly Rs40 billion was generated through motor vehicle-related taxes, while property tax collections contributed around Rs25 billion. Authorities described the figures as evidence of improved compliance and stronger enforcement measures.
The crackdown extends beyond token tax recovery. The department has directed officials to take action against property tax defaulters as well. Commercial properties with unpaid taxes may be sealed, while residential property owners could face legal proceedings under the Land Revenue Act, including attachment notices and possible confiscation measures.
Officials have also been instructed to accelerate the recovery of professional tax and excise duties. The department says the province-wide campaign represents one of the most comprehensive efforts in recent years to strengthen tax compliance and ensure the recovery of government revenue.
