The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has announced an important update regarding Moon Sighting for Dhul-Hijjah 1447 Hijri. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on May 17 in Karachi to observe the new moon.
According to the official statement, the meeting will be held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi. The session will take place on the evening of Sunday, corresponding to 29 Ziqaad 1447 Hijri. This meeting will play a key role in deciding the upcoming religious calendar.
The Moon Sighting process will not be limited to the central committee only. Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also meet at their respective locations across the country. These committees will collect local reports and observations.
All collected information will be shared with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for final review. The chairman of the committee, Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, will announce the final decision after reviewing nationwide reports.
The announcement from the committee will confirm the expected date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan. The final decision will depend entirely on the outcome of the Moon Sighting observations on May 17.
If the Dhul-Hijjah moon is sighted on the same evening, Eid ul Adha will be observed on May 27, which falls on Wednesday. However, if the moon is not sighted, Eid will be observed on May 28, Thursday.
The Ministry has urged all relevant committees to remain active and ensure accurate reporting during the Moon Sighting process. Clear weather conditions in many parts of the country may also support visibility.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which operates under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, is responsible for the official announcement of Islamic months. The Pakistan Meteorological Department will assist by providing scientific data and weather updates.
The importance of Moon Sighting in Pakistan is significant, as it directly determines key Islamic events such as Eid ul Adha and Ramadan. Every report will be carefully reviewed before the final announcement is made.
